Barometer Lab

The purpose of this lab is to measure air pressure using a balloon, a glass bowl, and a straw. Unfortunately, my straw barely showed any change, so this is the data from class.

WRPLOT Lab

Solar Trajectory Lab

For this lab, a water battle's shadow was measured and recorded at different times on February 9, 2014. The results are below:

Rainfall Lab

Drainage systems are extremely important especially on the Willet Science Center parking lot. Without a proper drainage system water would collect on the parking lot and cause still, sitting water. This collection of water can cause many problems such as chemical hazards as well as medical hazards for humans. Disease is easily collected from sitting, flood-like water which can cause many outbreaks especially on a college campus.

Gifford Pinchot


Gifford Pinchot

     Born on August 11th, 1865 in Simsbury Connecticut, Gifford Pinchot strongly worked to help preserve the environment.With influence from his father, Pinchot chose to study forestry after attending four years at Yale University. He traveled to Europe to do research on forestry because he loved the outdoors and nature, especially forests. After traveling and understanding forest reserves, Pinchot was given the title: chief of the division of forestry. With the assistance of President Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot was able to reserve multiple forests. He also increased the number of national forests throughout the United States. Roosevelt was known during his presidency for his service with national parks, especially with the help of Pinchot. Pinchot made millions of acres of land national forest reserves. 
      Because of his conservation of so many forests, Pinchot is now known as the "Father of American Conservation". Gifford Pinchot treasured the forests because he felt they were necessary for human survival. He informed many about the positives of forest conservation. For example forests have many natural resources that are vital for human life. Forests provide humans with everything necessary for life; therefore their conservation is extremely important. 
      To this day, there is currently a national named after Gifford Pinchot. It is located in Washington, United States. The national forest was named after Pinchot because of his active conservation efforts during his time period. The national forest is now currently home to one of the tallest Ponderosa Trees in the world. Pinchot also became very well known because of the books he wrote about forest conservation to inform the people of the importance of conservation. For example, he wrote The Fight for Conservation and many other books with information on becoming a forester. Most well known for his forest conservation, Pinchot strongly influenced the environment and the lives of many.
